Abnormal spaces between teeth

One of the common orthodontic problems is abnormal spaces between the teeth, diastema. Large gaps occur between the two upper front teeth resulting in unaesthetic look, shunning you from smiling, being conscious of awkward look of the teeth. Wider spaces between teeth also affect the speech. Excess space between other teeth also may be due to smaller size of teeth in larger jaw, or missing teeth or abnormally shaped teeth. These conditions may be genetically inherited or caused by the habits like thumb sucking, biting lower lip, tongue thrusting of front teeth.
The diastema is also because of longer tissue that connects the upper lip to the gums above the two frontal teeth. This tissue is called labial frenum. Over growth of this labial frenum extending to the space between the two front teeth push them apart increasing the gap between them. If you do not replace any tooth extracted, the teeth surrounding the extracted tooth progressively shift towards each other creating gap between teeth.
Widening of gap between the teeth needs attention and visits to dentists is necessary. Reasons for the diastema need to be evaluated and appropriate orthodontic treatment is to be given in time. Visits to Dentist & Dontist Dental Clinic or www.dentistinhyderabad.com/cosmatic.html which will help you to evaluate and have timely correction of these spaces under the care of expert orthodontists with the state-of-art skills of restoring proper position of the teeth and retaining natural beauty of your smile.

  3. thanks for the useful information Dr. Mani Pavitra.Gaps may form when a person's teeth are too small for the jaw bone. As a result, teeth are spaced too far apart. The size of your teeth and jaw bone can be determined by genetics, so diastema can run in families
