Smile for a Lifetime

An attractive smile makes you look beautiful and endearing to people. But it is not only about that. An attractive smile improves one’s self-image which assists in building confidence in a person. Today, orthodontic treatment can ensure that your beautiful smile is intact, forever!

Our teeth, gums and jaws are an important part of our body. We need to take good care of them by consulting a dentist periodically and following healthy dental practices. This will ensure that your beautiful smile stays beautiful and equally importantly, prevents dental problems. Without the appropriate orthodontic treatment, dental problems can lead to tooth decay, gum infections and even tooth loss.

Healthy teeth and proper jaw alignment make the cleaning and maintenance of our teeth easy. Out of shape teeth and jaw structure that is not properly aligned can lead to dental problems like tooth decay and gum ailments. Other problems could be insufficient chewing, abnormal wearing of tooth surfaces and excessive stress on gum tissue. These dental disorders can cause headaches, facial pain and neck pain.

Braces are for everyone!

Orthodontic treatment is suitable for people of all ages. Dental procedures like restorations, crowns and bridges cannot be administered successfully without first repositioning the teeth through orthodontic treatment. Braces can change the way you look by making your smile a lot more attractive!

Children can consult an orthodontist by the age of 7 and find out if orthodontic treatment is necessary. By that age, the first permanent molars and incisors would have appeared and the teeth can be evaluated for crossbites, crowding and other dental problems.

Orthodontic appliances are made with metal, ceramic or plastic. They can be either removable or they may be brackets bonded to the teeth. The duration of the treatment can vary from 6 months to 3 years depending on the growth of the patient’s mouth and the nature of the problem for which braces are being used. However, irrespective of how long the treatment lasts, its results last long after the treatment is completed. That means, once braces are used, the changes are permanent. Teeth that are properly aligned and supported are healthier. They are also easier to take care of and more likely to last the whole lifetime.  So, consult an orthodontist today and make that beautiful smile an everlasting one!

Orthodontic problems – Severe crowding of teeth

Improper growth of teeth and dental arches causes Orthodontic problems. The irregularity in growth of teeth affects our bite, eating style and also our facial features. One of the common orthodontic problems found is malocclusion (misalignment of teeth) due to crowding of teeth. In this condition the jaw space is narrow and does not have enough room to accommodate the teeth. This could be due to extra teeth or improper position of teeth overlapping of one another in certain part of the dental arches. Mostly this problem becomes noticeable around the age of 6 years when adult front teeth are erupted after the milk teeth shredded.

Crowded teeth affect not only the esthetic look of the face and smile, but also leads to severe dental problems of tooth decay , plaque formation and gum disease as the access for dental care to these parts of teeth becomes difficult.

The obvious reasons for the crowding of teeth is insufficient space in the dental arches , not necessarily due to microganathia – small jaw, but in fact the space available in the arch is not adequate enough to accommodate the teeth erupted at improper position . This results in misalignment with opposing teeth- malocclusion. Some of the habits like thumb sucking after 3 years; mouth breathing cause the crowding of teeth as the palate- the upper dental arch, shape is affected by these habits. In some cases when the decayed milk teeth are removed to give way to permanent teeth the space retainers are not used. The new permanent tooth erupts at improper position leading to crowded teeth.
